InBody 270 Accuracy & Why We Use It at Gymies Fitness Center
We have had a fair number of people asking about the accuracy of the InBody 270, so here’s a quick, science-backed clarification.
The InBody 270 is a highly validated, research-backed body composition analyzer.
Multiple peer-reviewed studies show that the InBody 270 generally comes within 2–3 percentage points of a DEXA scan, and its changes over time track almost identically with DEXA (correlations around 0.95–0.98). In the research world, that’s extremely strong agreement.
Is it exactly the same as a DEXA?
No — but even DEXA machines disagree with each other by 2–4%. No measurement in body composition is perfect.
What matters most — and where the InBody really shines — is consistent tracking over time. When the scanning protocol is followed properly (fasted, no exercise beforehand, proper hydration), the InBody gives highly reliable data on:
-
Body fat mass
-
Skeletal muscle mass
-
Segmental lean mass (each arm/leg/torso)
-
Water balance
-
Visceral fat level
This is far more useful than a scale, far more accurate than guessing, and far more practical than a DEXA or BodPod or hydrostatic weighing.

At Gymies Fitness Center, we follow the protocol exactly to ensure accuracy and consistency. This allows members to watch real changes in muscle and fat over weeks, months, and training cycles.
If you ever want to know how your body composition is changing — not just your weight — the InBody is an excellent tool.
And we’re proud to offer it here at Gymies Fitness Center!
